The Peek lamp was initially designed as a floor lamp to accompany a sofa I designed a few years back, says Jonas Wagell. I find it that floor lamps often are big and quite dominant in interiors. I needed a lamp which was small and humble and simply “popped up” where you needed some light. The Peek lamp has a heavy base with a long slender stem and a shade which gracefully peeks over the back of a sofa or armchair.

The base has a concave top creating a bowl for the essential stationary, earplugs, jewellery or other small items and the top of the stem functions as a touch dimmer.

Although the form derives from a functional requirement I believe it’s important that the lamp has a clear and personal expression. I strive to create simplistic objects and products that are intuitive and easy to understand. In essence, the Peek lamps only consist of three parts – base, stem and shade.

The form is reduced to a necessity and the expression becomes iconic. First out in the range was the table lamp in 2015, but in 2016 the floor lamp version will eventually be released.

"My design is focused on functional items rather than artistic objects. I appreciate products that can be used everyday and be a part of people’s lives. I believe affection and emotion is more important than exclusivity and expensive materials. My aim is to create simplistic objects that are easy to understand and use, but try to add something personal and expressive. I've come to call this philosophy generous minimalism." Jonas Wagell (born 1973) is a Swedish architect and designer located in Stockholm. He is trained in graphics, marketing and management, design and architecture at institutions such as Konstfack, Beckmans, Berghs and Parsons and has a back record in strategic project management. The studio JWDA (Jonas Wagell Design & Architecture) maintains a multi-disciplinary focus on brand management, architecture and product design. This applies well to design concepts and enforcing brand value - and we love co-operating with like-minded professionals. And hey, it's more fun too! Wagell is a restless soul with a strong nerve for entrepreneurship which has brought him to develop the in-house design label Hello Industry, the prefab house concept Mini House and the well-being cabin range Arjan Sauna together with house company Sommarnöjen. Wagell designed the JWDA Concrete Lamp for Menu A/S.
