Wilhelm Seibel I, establishes the Seibel Britannia Goods Factory in 1895. In 1911 the first branch factory, the Hessischen Metallwerke Gebr. Seibel. The company attains global recognition in 1936 with its Olympia Flatware furnished for the Olympic Village in Berlin.
Thanks to the very healthy economy of the post-war years, staffing increased to almost 1000. In the '50s a major decline in the flatware industry resulted in the demise of almost 90% of all German manufacturers. Thanks to the bold leadership of Herbert Seibel, a grandson of the founder, who steered the company towards design oriented products, a catastrophe was avoided for the Hessische Metallwerke. The company was later renamed to Mono.
Believing that “art prevails over design,” Pablo Pallucco founded his company in 1982 in Treviso, Italy. It evolved into a design-driven company and, in the 1980s, took over production of Mariano Fortuny’s iconic 1921 lamp, a piece that has been likened to sculpture.
The brand ZEE started in 2012.
Peter who was (and still is) an agent for different design accessory brands for the BELUX market wanted to create a design product from a to z.
But everything is already (re-) designed and this makes a new product difficult to stand out.
Finally he saw the light in garden accessories, more specific a garden hose reel.
ZEE means SEA in Dutch, so “mirtoon” a sea in the Mediterranean was chosen as the first product name. It received the “Herman Van De Velde label” with its launch.
In 2014 Luc, who is an agent and distributor of design accessories and furniture for the Benelux joined to build the brand ZEE.
He is the sales and marketing force and makes the brand known the world around.
Zee stands for fun, affordable and surprising design for the garden.
