A line of Mondaine watches is heavily influenced by classical Swiss railway clocks, called the Official Swiss Railways Watch/SBB, to a design licensed from the Swiss Federal Railways since 1986. This design, by Hans Hilfiker, originated in 1944.
The original movement was unlike other watches and unique because of the following fact: By spreading 58 seconds over the 360 degrees (rather than the usual 60 seconds), the second hand comes to a complete stop at the 12 numeral for two seconds, giving the illusion that time has stopped. Then, the minute hand advances one step and the second hand starts a new cycle. However the company stopped making models with this mechanism around 2001. In 2013, a redesigned model was launched under the name stop2go. In keeping with how the movement itself works, the crown is shaped like a rocker switch that you flip back and forth instead of winding. This element is as practical as it is distinctive.
Lapalma’s success has been achieved step by step throughout the years. No overnight success stories here - just hard work and passion in equal measure.
The company’s story begins in the 1980s, when founders the Marcato brothers decided to go into business on their own. Their initial idea developed rapidly and Lapalma was established soon after, showing from the outset a preference for natural, recyclable materials. Following investments in machinery, Lapalma took advantage of the availability of new materials to develop a wide range of products for the contract market, which quickly demonstrated the brand’s appeal, attracting buyers on major projects worldwide for hotels, shops, museums and airports.
The Northern brand was born in the studios of Northern Lighting, where a team of creatives has been illuminating lives for the past twelve years. We combine beauty with functionality, and prefer natural materials and genuine craftsmanship. Furniture and interior accessories are a natural fit for what we do, enabling us to express our characteristic style in a whole new scale.
Northern’s debut collection is simplicity at its best, spelled out in streamlined designs that are fun to combine and easy to clash and contrast. Smoked wood, twilight colours and strong silhouettes create subdued moods, while subtle geometries and classic sensibilities add an elegant touch. We see the interior as a flexible, creative space, and make multifunctional products that are unified in style, as well as in spirit.
Since the year of its founding in 2002, Slide has been a leading company of outdoor and indoor decoration, lighting design for contract, events and residential areas. Its success is due to its founder, Giò Colonna Romano: his fancy fantasy matches perfectly with his thirty-year know-how in the processing of plastic resins. As a demiurge, Slide creates colourful design objects: starting from a humble material as polyethylene, Slide elevates it to refine high quality design and elegant art objects. The present and the future of Slide is the constantly research for innovation. Slide is always looking for new materials, as the introduction of soft and rigid polyurethane, and it is looking for new shapes, thanks to the collaboration with some of the most famous designers of the world, as Alessandro Mendini, Paola Navone, Stefano Giovannoni, Marcel Wanders, Karim Rashid and Marc Sadler. The first success was the production of luminous bar furniture, which can be the protagonists of unforgettable events and contract that do not want to be unnoticed. Slide constantly grows up in different products and sectors: we acquire and develop the Design of Love collection, we create rental service of furniture, and we look for beauty, with the Slide Art branch. Between artisanship and innovation.
