The two designers Emiel Vaessen (1958) en Gert Jan Vogel (1960) met at the Academy of Arts and Design in Rotterdam. In 1985 they started together the design agency Duo Design. Duo Design specializes in design, development and production of its own line of interior products.Simplicity of design, subtle details and the application of high quality materials lend the products an unmistakable ¨duodesign¨ signature.The collection is sold in a large number of countries and various designs from Duo Design are included in the collections of museums of modern art and design.
Wilhelm Seibel I, establishes the Seibel Britannia Goods Factory in 1895. In 1911 the first branch factory, the Hessischen Metallwerke Gebr. Seibel. The company attains global recognition in 1936 with its Olympia Flatware furnished for the Olympic Village in Berlin.
Thanks to the very healthy economy of the post-war years, staffing increased to almost 1000. In the '50s a major decline in the flatware industry resulted in the demise of almost 90% of all German manufacturers. Thanks to the bold leadership of Herbert Seibel, a grandson of the founder, who steered the company towards design oriented products, a catastrophe was avoided for the Hessische Metallwerke. The company was later renamed to Mono.
Established in 1945 by the master Giuseppe Ostuni, Oluce is the oldest Italian lighting design company that is still active today. In fact, before the war there existed only Gino Sarfatti's Arteluce, which disappeared in the late '90s, while 1948 saw the birth of Azucena and Lamperti, followed by Arredoluce and Stilnovo in 1950. But for many years it was chiefly Arteluce, Azucena and Oluce that dominated the Italian scene, creating a hub for the designers - strongly engaged first in the reconstruction and later in the birth of series production - who animated the Milanese forum: Vittoriano Viganò and BBPR, Gigi Caccia Dominioni and Ignazio Gardella, Marco Zanuso and Joe Colombo.
The legend lives on. Success stories are stories about tradition and progress.
