Alessi Dressed in Wood Cheeseboard,The elegance of wood.In 1989, spurred by a desire to reconnect with a local production tradition that was as ancient as it was deep-rooted, Alessi introduced a collection of wooden articles made by artisans in Valle Strona to its catalogue.

Wedged between Valsesia and Val d’Ossola, Valle Strona starts at1300 metres asl and drops down to Lake Orta where Alessi is headquartered.

The production of wooden artefacts in this valley is documented as far back as the sixteenth century. The dialogue between Alessi and this ancient craft continues through four objects in wood designed by Marcel Wanders for the “Dressed” series. Among these a Cheese board (1) and a Cake stand (2) that can also be used with a domed cover in clear thermoplastic resin with wooden knob (3).

The Lid is sold separately so that it can be used with either the Board or the Cake stand. The series includes a personal Breakfast board, two Trays in two different sizes and a large Serving board. “Dressed in wood” is completed with one last piece, a big round Centrepiece. Natural beech wood was chosen for all the articles in this collection.

The relief decoration, a recurring theme throughout the “Dressed” collection, is obtained using lasers and then finished by hand. A natural material, beech wood is characterised by knots and veins that make each piece slightly unique. To preserve the beauty of this wood, clean the articles with a damp sponge and dry thoroughly
